As Equanimity looks ahead to 2012 we had the opportunity to see how others’ New Year is already shaping up. Journalist Soledad O’Brien told Equanimity publisher Lumbie Mlambo that she is excited to be back! “Back” as in her new morning job at CNN. The former CNN journalist will rejoin the news operation in 2012 when she will co-host a "conversational ensemble program" from 7a.m. to 9 a.m. ET. O’Brien was the keynote speaker at the DFW Association of Black Journalists Gala earlier this month when Equanimity had the opportunity to speak to the journalist about her past and her hopes for the future. Find out what O’Brien had to say in our upcoming issue.
Speaking of issues, we are looking for story contributions for the upcoming year… topics will range from overcoming challenges to global happiness. If you have an idea… email us your pitch. We will also be looking at education and empowerment and of course the topic we’ve been promoting lately … going the distance. How do you go the distance and maintain? As you have read here and on our website, we’ve been involved with swimmer Ben Lecomte’s The Longest Swim. Equanimity is a big fan of ways to make a difference and if Ben can make a difference by his endurance swim across the ocean we think you can too! Cancer needs to be eradicated and Ben is helping toward that goal. You can connect with Ben and his great adventure… and share your story too at his website thelongestswim.com plus read more about him in our spring 2012 edition.
As we end this year we want to thank our readers for your support. We are growing! And, with our growth we are looking for a “face” of Equanimity. Could you be that person? Do you have a peace that brings you equanimity and balance? If so, we want to hear from you! If you are chosen as our “face” you will take a place in our magazine in each edition, interact with media, attend speaking engagements, appear in Equanimity advertisements and wear Equanimity clothing and jewelry. Yep, it’s a glamorous job but somebody’s got to do it! Why not you?
Equanimity wants to bring out the best in all of us in 2012! We’ll be highlighting new beginnings as Soledad O’Brien kicks off the New Year returning to CNN.
We’ll be focusing on the challenges that all of us should take to make a difference. And we’ll be spotlighting those who are committed but often not praised like our teachers and educators. We invite you to continue the journey with us as we head to 2012… soon you’ll find us on major newsstands internationally. Equanimity is everywhere!

Samir Husni's Guide to New Magazines, Volume 26 has named Equanimity Magazine one of the top 30 magazines launched in 2010. Accompanied by newspaper distributed mags and other magazines that cater to foodies, art and literature, the business world, and gamers... Equanimity hit the radar of Mr.Magazine's staff. They base their criteria on:
1. How much publicity did the magazine generate at launch? Mr. Magazine's Review: http://mrmagazine.wordpress.com/
2. How relevant was the magazine to intended market?
3. Was the magazine notably diversified and specialized?
4. How innovative was the magazine?
5. Was the magazine so bizarre that it had to be included?
We at Equanimity don't consider our magazine bizarre and the gang at Mr. Magazine apparently agrees awarding Equanimity for "A good attempt in achieving a new breed of magazines and a lot of credit for being the leader of the pack."
They go on to talk about Equanimity's diversity and our attempt to better reflect our society with diverse topics covered in one magazine. To read more about the top new magazine launches in 2010 go to:
